The Orange Carriers – A Photo Essay by Marc Lenfant
The orange carriers of the Punaruu Valley
More than four hours of walking on steep slopes, feet sinking into mud for a precarious balance along slippery paths… all while carrying loads that often exceed 60 kg of freshly picked oranges from the heights of Tahiti.
It is not just a descent, but a true physical and mental challenge—a daily feat of strength and endurance, accomplished by men and women deeply attached to their land, their know-how, and their traditions.
It was a privilege to photograph them.
